Braun Silk-expert Pro 3 Review
Did you know you can legally buy DIY laser hair removal devices? As someone who hates shaving, I was immediately intrigued when I saw them advertised. Technically, they aren’t lasers. These devices operate using IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology, which targets darker pigments in your skin.

I ordered mine as an open-box special on eBay (of course), and I’ve used it on and off for a couple of years now. I recently started again as part of my summer leg routine. Here’s what I think.
➡️ Product: Braun Silk-expert Pro 3 PL3120 IPL Hair Removal System
Price: $269.99 at Target
✅ Why It Works: This device is super easy to use. You literally press it to your skin and zap. That’s it! It takes me about 10-15 minutes to do my legs and my armpits. It feels slightly warm, but it doesn’t hurt.
And … it actually reduces hair. I would say my leg hair is easily reduced by 60-70% after eight sessions (two per week). I skipped it for probably a year, and it only recently started growing back. If I keep it up, I can shave my legs roughly every seven days, compared to every other day. For non-professional treatment, it’s pretty damn impressive.
My armpits were slightly less impressive — I’d say more like a 30% reduction in hair and no real reduction in time between shaves. I plan to treat this area more consistently to see if it improves.
❌ Why It Doesn’t: It is pricey (hence my open box eBay find), and it doesn’t give completely hairless results. It only works on fair skin with dark hair — it will not work on blonde hair or dark skin. As in, the technology isn’t capable of results on other skin or hair types.
You also need to be careful when zapping due to the extremely bright flash. I look away, but some people do buy special glasses.

The chart provided by Braun.
Buy It? Yes! If you want a reduction in hair and are satisfied with decent (not perfect) results, this is great. If you don’t have the product’s ideal skin/hair combo, or want totally hairless results, I’d go to a professional.
