The Best Beauty Products That Are FSA/HSA Approved

Ready for a tax-free summer shopping spree? One of my favorite hot person tax hacks is using my FSA or HSA to stock up on eligible beauty buys. Just don’t forget to save your receipt.

Hypochlorous Acid Spray

This stuff smells like pool chlorine, but don’t be alarmed. It helps heal and soothe scrapes, bug bites, hives, sunburns, acne, and general skin discomfort. I mist it on my face and neck whenever I have a weird flare-up. (Magic Molecule, $20 at Ulta)

Micro-Dart Pimple Patches

The micro-dart part is important — regular pimple patches are inexpensive, but the dart version is costly. The darts deliver actives (typically salicylic acid) directly to your pimple or ingrown hair, making the healing process significantly quicker. (Hero Cosmetics, $12.99 at Ulta)

bareMinerals Talc-Free Loose Setting Powder SPF 25

The SPF version of this powder pulls double duty as a makeup setting powder and an extra layer of sun protection. I hate talc in my powders, so the talc-free formula is a bonus. There’s also a handy travel version for touchups. (bareMinerals, $35 at Ulta)

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Solution

This is a chemical peel in a bottle. It will take your face off, so read the instructions and don’t combine it with other actives, please. It works wonders on acne-prone skin. Plus, the blood-red serum is perfect for year-round Halloween vibes. (The Ordinary, $9.50 at Ulta)

Sunscreen

I saved the most important for last. Sunscreen has gotten expensive, especially the nicer, more cosmetically elegant formulas you find at Sephora or Ulta. I specifically set aside dollars in my FSA for sunscreen, as I will burn to a crisp otherwise. (See my favorite sunscreens here.)

Here are a few oddball things you can buy with your FSA or HSA:

🎭 Dr Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite™ FaceWare Pro | A powerful light therapy device that uses red and blue light to clear acne and improve your complexion. ($455 at FSAStore)

⭕️ Wave Full Body Circulation Plate | A standing board with customizable vibration settings that enhance lymphatic drainage and relieve joint and back pain. ($299.99 at FSAStore)

🦟 heat it®️ Insect Bite Healer for Apple iPhone | A medical device that treats bug bites and stings in seconds by applying heat to the affected skin. It connects to your smartphone. ($39.99 at HSAStore)
